Shoreham - Poster

This tranquil image is artist Kit Boyd’s homage to Victorian artist Samuel Palmer, who lived in the village in the 1820s/30s producing his most important work.      

Kit mimics methods Palmer would have used (ink and gum arabic on board) to create this work. Find the hare which features in Palmer’s Early Morning painting, and the cumulus clouds in the distance, a frequent detail in Palmer’s work. Spot the World War One chalk memorial cross on the hill rising above the scene.  In the foreground is the River Darent, one of only 200 chalk rivers in the world. If you look closely, the figure of Samuel Palmer himself can be seen sketching in a front garden.
