Knole Park is a huge area of parkland with ancient trees close to central Sevenoaks, dominated by the National Trust property Knole House.
In this linocut artist Kit Boyd adds a tiny figure underneath one of seven oak trees. This is Orlando, from the novel of the same name, by author Virginia Woolf and based on the colourful family history of former Knole House resident Vita Sackville-West. An angel who visited Orlando (at least in Sally Potter’s film) floats in the tree above. The white doe in the foreground could be a mythical creature or simply one of the beautiful deer in the park. Kit found this rear view of Knole House a more interesting one, with the buildings all higgledy-piggledy.
